The walled city of Treth is located on the western side of the Ridgeback mountains in the large territory controlled by the Human Matriarchy. While it has become a major human settlement within the past three hundred years, it was actually built by dwarves under the control of the Immortal Empire. It changed hands several times during the War of Fracture, but was claimed by humanity toward the tail end of the war as the elves retreated east. Its centrality to the war effort has taken it’s toll – while the base of the walls is beautifully cut white stone, inferior post-fracture efforts are obvious to all who view them.
Treth is well known for being the epicenter of the War of Fracture, the city where elven city-lord Restaien broke taboo and tradition by taking several human wives and fathering half-elven children. While humans of the city feel grateful to Restaien for what his actions led to, they tend to downplay his importance in favor of his first wife, Seleah, who became the First Mother of the human Matriarchy.
While Treth did serve as the center of the Matriarchy for several generations, the political center was eventually moved further east to a southern island in an effort to further remove themselves from the threat of elven incursion. Treth is still, however, a politically important city in human society and is the current seat of the Second Mother of the Matriarchy.
